The Whammy Saga -- Episode 6
"HOW DID WE EVER GET INTO THIS?" or
"UNCLE TUCK GETS THE SHAFT"

The cast:  Tuck Shank, Harry Clarke, Jeff Doane

So on Saturday, the Whammies went to the Waterfront and presented Tuck with a Whammy wand. And, of course, he was delighted with the honor.

As the troop was loading cars in Campsite 2, they saw Tuck one last time. The camp Jeep, full of staffmen, sped by with a load of wet garbage on its way to the Pig Dump. One of the staff on board was Tuck. He called out a farewell greeting to Troop 66, waving his Wammy wand wildly about and zapping everything in sight.

"Maybe we made a mistake, " mused Harry, "to unleash Uncle Tuck with a Whammy wand. He’s thrashing it around rather recklessly."

"Yes, " agreed Jeff. "You would think Tuck, of all people, would realize how dangerous that is. I’m afraid something dreadful is liable to happen to the Waterfront as a result of all this."

Well, they didn’t learn what disaster actually resulted until the following year. During the winter rains, a huge, old redwood tree toppled onto the front of the Boathouse. The council managed to clear the tree away and rebuild the Boathouse. But the canoe garage and the staff quarters were reconstructed as one big room. And ever since then, the Waterfront staff has had to sleep in tents just like the rest of the staff.
